I (we) are female workers in garment industry who live and work in an urban village filled with workshops. This garment was completed during the intervals of our labor. I (we) printed on a 165-meter-long fabric some online questions, discussions, and actions regarding the Fengxian incident since the end of January (2022). Each garment is a part of this archive, and the package also contains some fabric scraps that were cut off. Feel free to use them as you wish.

I (we) know that eliminating gender-based violence is a long process, and we are delighted to be a part of many efforts at this time. In the vast ocean of people, we ought to encourage and inspire each other.

 

需要补充的是，在制作的过程中，一些参加的女工朋友是第一次听闻丰县事件。我们有感触和共情，但也有朋友是出于个人情谊前来参与，这让我们感受到，质疑，讨论，进而向公权力表达抗议和问责，可能更多是来自大学和城市的声音。十几年来城市高速发展的背后，是农民在种植中获得的过低收入，流动工人在城市缺失的福利和保障，留守儿童匮乏的教育资源，这些不平等使城乡阶层之间存在许多沟壑，想象中的女性共同体，也许还愿没有扩展到它应有的范围。希望大家由丰县事件开始的这些种种努力，可以朝向许多更广更远的连结。

 

It's worth noting that, during the production process, some female workers who participated heard about the Fengxian incident for the first time. While we felt touched and empathized by the public outrage, these workers participated because of personal relationships. This made us realize that the questioning, discussion, and subsequent protest and accountability to public power might come more from voices in universities and cities. Behind the rapid development of cities over the past decade lies the meager income farmers earn from cultivation, the missing welfare and protection for migrant workers in cities, and the scarce educational resources for left-behind children. These inequalities create many gaps between urban and rural classes. The imagined female community might not have expanded to its intended scope yet. We hope that the efforts stemming from the Fengxian incident can lead to many broader and more extended connections.

Hello, I'm a friend of a friend. This piece of clothing has journeyed through multiple hands to reach you. Embodied within it are the stories of those who sustained a movement: from Yin Ran, who etched "Pay Attention to Fengxian" on shoe soles and inspired others to follow suit, to Wu Yi, who faced police brutality after visiting victims and later exposed it on Weibo. There's also the tale of a girl who boldly wore a "Pay Attention to Fengxian" T-shirt on the subway, and of fearless individuals who vocalized their personal accounts of women's trafficking and gender-based violence. Over the past few months, these advocates have all faced varying degrees of intimidation and detention from security police. Due to real-name registration for deliveries and pandemic-related restrictions, the creation and circulation of this garment experienced blockages, suspicion, fear, scrutiny, and traveled through different cities. With the help of some friends from the garment market, courier services, and other channels, it was finally delivered to you.
